Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, the fourth largest city in India, is home to several Hindu and Jain temples as well as churches. Akshardham temple complex is an example of Indo-Islamic architecture. The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial has a vast collection of letters, photographs and other personal items of India's first Home Minister.The Kankaria Lake was built during the 17th century by Sultan Ahmed Shah, who also constructed the nearby Sarkhej Roza as a shrine for his favorite wife.

Sarkhej Roza (Sarkhed Fort) was built in 1411 AD during the reign of Muhammad Begada with its massive stone walls enclosing the tombs of Mahmud Begada and his family members along with stories from the Quran.

The Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, also known as "Mosque of Blood", was built in 1573 by Mughal Emperor Akbar's prime minister Abu'l-Fazl ibn Mubarak to commemorate the spot where his father and uncle fell at the first siege of Ahmedabad (1572). It is said that blood of the two brothers is soaked into bricks of floor and walls. The Jama Masjid contains a poem written by him which is carved on its west wall.

The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Museum has photographs and various personal items of Mahatma Gandhi with those related to other members of his family. Maqbara Shahibaug is a shrine in honor of Akbar's daughter. The "Noor Mahal" contains a collection of Noor Jehan's dresses and jewelry.

The Manek Chowk is an 18th-century square with shops built around it. Chandi Darwaja was constructed in 1726 during the reign of Abd-ul-Haq, the then Viceroy of Gujarat. The Rani Sipri's Mosque was built by Arjan, a prince from Rajasthan in 1510.

The Sardar Bridge is an example of cantilever arch bridge construction. Other notable bridges built during the period include Dharoi Dam, Kapurbawdi, Sidi Saiyed and Thaltej Bridges over River Sabarmati and Mahatma Gandhi Setu (the longest road-cum-rail bridge in India) over river Narmada. The Sarkhej Roza located to its west also contains tombs of his family members along with those of other Muslim nobles including Murad Baksh Khan and Imam Shah as well as white marbles mausoleums of Sayyid Ahmed Shah I and his queen.

Kutch

Kutch is famous for its silver filigree, embroideries, and other handicrafts. The Gadh Mahal Palace was built by King Rao Deshalji I in 1745 to serve as his occasional residence in the region.

The Chhota Udepur Palace is a palace located at Deva Saheb Road which served as an architecturally magnificent place with exotic gardens where royal family from Baroda used to spend their holidays for 100 years (1863-1965). It is now turned into a museum known as Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Science Museum housed with various science-related exhibits including the newly found rare skeletons of fossil fish dating back to around 70 million years along with the Diorama of Ice Age depicting the lifestyle of prehistoric man in Gujarat.

The Amarkot Fort was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1580 AD south of Ahmedabad as a part of the system of protecting towns and villages against attacks by marauders. It is situated on a rocky hillock at the edge of town overlooking a lake formed from damming up one of its streams with some remains of the original fort visible.

It is also noted for its very fine hand-woven textiles, especially from Kutch and Saurashtra region, which are known as Jamdani saris. The House of Moti Mahal Delux is a palace built in 1721 by Vaghela princess (daughter-in-law to Chittod Ganga of Vaghela dynasty). The House is famous for its delicately painted white marble walls and ceiling with mirrors and chandeliers.

Saurashtra

The Aina Mahal, built by Khengarji III in 1778, served as his occasional residence. The original palace was destroyed during the earthquake of 1819 and replaced by a new building on its foundations.

Saurashtra is famous for its intricately carved wooden furniture, especially bedsteads and temple carvings known as Panchrukthas. The Sarghoda Palace (built in 1727) is surrounded by lake. It has been converted into an art gallery with rare collection of paintings depicting life style from 16 to 19 century displayed on the walls of corridors giving true picture of the MughGadi period while fine portraits of various contemporary artists are showcased in western wing which had been used as polo ground of palace. The Calico Museum of Textiles is the only museum in India that hosts a collection of rare antique textiles dating back to around 500 years ago and showcases their evolution as well as influence from other cultures.

The Gandhi Aashram (formerly known as Kochrab Ashram) was established by Gandhiji on 15 May 1915 after he returned from South Africa to start the non-violent movement against the British rule in India. It was also used as a garrison for soldiers who were prepared to lay down their lives for the freedom of the nation. The ashram was later shifted to Ahmedabad and is now preserved by National Trust (N.T).
